Grateful Dead Live At Ted Askey’s Pig Farm 1970 captures the legendary band’s first-ever UK and European performance, recorded at the historic Hollywood Festival in Staffordshire. Released by OZIT Records as a special double LP set, this Indies Only edition is housed in a gatefold sleeve and pressed on stunning red vinyl, making it a must-have collectible for Grateful Dead fans and vinyl enthusiasts.

John Peel said in 1995: “How many examples have there been in the longish history of English music festivals that define the festival in your head forever? There have been a few. I DJ’d and compered at The Grateful Dead at Ted Askey’s pig farm, Staffordshire, this was a great example.”

Fifty-six years ago the Grateful Dead travelled to England to perform at the Hollywood Festival, held on Ted Askey’s farm near Newcastle-under-Lyme. The event featured an impressive line-up including Traffic, Ginger Baker’s Airforce, Mungo Jerry, The Flaming Groovies, Tony Joe White, Black Sabbath and Jose Feliciano. The performance featured on Grateful Dead Live At Ted Askey’s Pig Farm 1970 showcases the band at their most adventurous, delivering a remarkable three-hour electric set despite challenging stage and sound conditions.

One reviewer described the show as “a band playing at the edge of new possibilities and ideas.”

The British music press unanimously praised the band’s appearance. Mac Garry in Zigzag 13 called them “totally magnificent”, while Dick Lawson in Friends 12 described the set as “the most ecstatic exploratory music ever witnessed in England.”

This Grateful Dead Live At Ted Askey’s Pig Farm 1970 double LP release preserves a historic moment in Grateful Dead history, allowing listeners to experience one of the most celebrated performances of the band’s early years. For collectors and fans alike, Grateful Dead Live At Ted Askey’s Pig Farm 1970 is an essential addition to any vinyl collection.
